Local Colleges Bursaries

Since 1991 IZF has been supporting students to pursue short courses locally, and supporting many students in local Universities. Over 300 students have obtained degrees locally under IZF support. In 2017/2018 academic year we are supporting 521 students, of which 66 are sponsored by Euro Charity Trust (UK) through Alimahomed Hassam Trust at Malawi College of Health Sciences in Lilongwe, Blantyre and Zomba campuses. Zamzam Foundation (Malawi) have also agreed to sponsor 10 students at Malawi College of Health Sciences. Malawi Relief Fund (MRF) UK also agreed to start sponsoring 33 students at Malawi College of Health Sciences. Additionally, Dedza Welfare Trust (DWT- UK), in 2017/2018 academic year, continues to support 43 continuing Students in 13 institutions. IZF only supports 369 students in 45 institutions, both public and private accredited institutions.

Local Colleges/Universities

Apart from supporting students to study in abroad Universities, we support many underprivileged students locally in different institutions . As the number of private institutions increases, so are we increasing supporting students locally

In 2017/2018 academic year, 521 students are under our bursary scheme. Students are paid either full or part payment of fees depending on student eligibility. It is worthy to mention that among the sponsored students, 66 are sponsored by Euro Charity Trust (UK) through Alimahomed Hassam Trust at Malawi College of Health Sciences in Lilongwe, Blantyre and Zomba campuses. We are also pleased to report that due to our commitment and credibility in handling bursaries, Zamzam Foundation Local Colleges/Universities (Malawi) has joined us to sponsor 10 students at Malawi College of Health Sciences. Again, Malawi Relief Fund (MRF) UK has joined us in addition to supporting operating cost at Maone Vocational Training Centre, to start sponsoring 33 students at Malawi College of Health Sciences.

We are so grateful that, Dedza Welfare Trust (DWT- UK), in 2017/2018 academic year, continues to support 43 continuing Students in 13 institutions. They started with 54 students, hence 11 students completed their studies in 2017.

With collection from local donors, we currently support 509 students in 45 institutions both public and private colleges, as indicated in the next page table.

Just like other abroad institutions, over 300 students have obtained degrees from local colleges and over 500 have managed to get certificate/Diploma under IZF sponsorship. The average cost to support students locally, specifically to those attending short courses is K250,000.00 per year. For students pursuing degree in public universities, the average annual tuition fees is K500,000.00

Apart from tuition fees, the students face challenges in pocket allowances, food and accommodation because most of the institutions locally do not provide free catering and accommodation. This is the biggest issue we are facing locally, we have budgeted K300,000 per students as annual pocket allowance to address the challenge
